To: Pottawatomie County Citizens:
Razing your historic Pottawatomie County Courthouse, built in 1884, and replacing it with a new consolidated office building was one of six scenarios in a 20-year Master Facilities Plan completed by BG Consultants and is currently being considered by your County Commissioners. The Pottawatomie County Courthouse in Westmoreland is the second oldest courthouse still in use in Kansas. If you feel as I do, that conserving and restoring our historical courthouse is vitally important, you can volunteer to carry a petition or sign one. On Saturday, June 10, in conjunction with the 49th Annual Westmoreland BBQ, a booth will be set up in the City Park in Westmoreland to dispense information and to collect signatures to CONSERVE AND RESTORE OUR HISTORIC COURTHOUSE. We have been advised that petition signees should be citizens of Pottawatomie County, Kansas as YOU are the taxpayers that support our County government. For people who grew up here, have lived in Pottawatomie County, or feel strongly about preserving our heritage, I encourage you to write letters voicing YOUR opinion to the Pottawatomie County Commissioners, P.O. Box 187, Westmoreland, KS 66549. The Past IS our Future! Dorothy Campbell PO Box 282 Westmoreland, KS 66549 785-457-3525
